50th Anniversary Birthday Party of School of Journalism and Communication

10/2015

Founded in 1965, the year of 2015 marks the 50th anniversary of the School of Journalism and Communication. A massive celebration named “50th Birthday Party” was held in New Asia College on 31 October.

A record of nearly a thousand alumni, guests, staff and students returned to their alma mater on the big day. To add more value to the event, the School specially built traditional Chinese 3-storey flower plaques on the avenue outside Humanities Building and at its main entrance.

The 50th Birthday Party was kicked off by the opening ceremony of the School Logo, followed by Prof. Joseph Chan’s retirement party and the first seminar of the 7th Chinese University Journalism Award. In addition, fun booths and Hong Kong street-side food stalls were set up on the New Asia College campus.

The once-in-a-lifetime night performance show, hosted by 4 alumni – Amber Au, No.6@Rubberband, Elizabeth Wong and Derek Lui, took place in New Asia Concourse. It was packed with brilliant performances, including a choir performance by over 30 alumni graduated in the 80s and 90s, heartwarming sharing sessions by well-known alumni such as Erica Li, Jo Ngai, Akina Fong, Julia Poon and Connie Chan, music and dance performances by undergraduates, postgraduates and No.6@Rubberband. The grand finale of the show was the micro movie “A Secret Mission” starring various professors, which brought the whole-day celebration to a perfect end.
