Technology has changed and is changing the way we produce and consume media. Around the world, newspapers are losing circulation, bureaux are being shut down, journalists are losing their jobs.

The internet is seen as both the enemy and a potential saviour for our “legacy”media as they grapple with the digital present and future. In the west, the established newspapers are struggling with the dilemma of whether or not to institute paywalls.

In Hong Kong, the battle of the free dailies is hotting up. Into this landscape, new digital radio channels have entered the fray. How do they aim to stake a claim in the crowded media market and how do they hope to make money?

Digital Broadcasting Corporation is one of four operators granted licenses to run digital audio broadcasting in Hong Kong. The channels provided by these operators will more than double the number of radio channels available in Hong Kong in the analogue age.

Our speaker has 26 years of experience behind him in Hong Kong’s newspaper and magazine publishing, multi-media and advertising industries. Before becoming taking the helm at Digital Broadcasting Corporation Hong Kong Limited last year, he was the Chief Executive Officer of the Hong Kong Economic Journal. He also held top the posts at Apple Daily, Next Magazine (in Hong Kong and Taiwan), Sudden Weekly and Eat & Travel Weekly.
