Biography
- Dr. J. Travis is a veteran of the communications industry with a 30-year career in media, marketing, advertising, and public relations. In 2019 he completed his Ph.D. at the City University of Hong Kong focused on the role of “Play” in marketing communications. In 2012, he completed his Master’s of Science at Columbia University in Strategic Communications.
Travis’ media career began as a journalist for a local newspaper (The Middlesex News) in Massachusetts before transitioning into radio promotions industry in college.
In New York City he worked with many popular entertainers in the film, television & music industries while bridging the gap between entertainment marketing and corporate publicity.
Advice to students
- Communications is not about awareness. Our role is to stimulate an action. As such, never aim to impress. Your work must persuade, inform and hopefully entertain.
