YIP NGA MAN, KARMEN (CLASS OF 2025) STUDENT VOICE

The Global Communication (GCOM) programme has been
the catalyst for my intellectual and professional growth. Its
interdisciplinary nature introduced me to a spectrum of fields,
from User-Interface Design to DEI storytelling, and gave me the
                                  freedom to pursue my curiosity.

Reporting on emerging topics in our English journalism practicum,
Varsity, I found my passion at the intersection of AI creativity and
ethics. That spark ignited my final-year project, "Navigating Ethics
and Innovation: AI's Impact on Jazz, Music Creation, and Virtual
Influencers," which drew from extensive research and interviews
with AI experts and creative professionals through my work at Varsity.

As a non-STEM major, I embraced the challenge of deciphering complex AI concepts and translating
them into clear, engaging narratives. This skill became one of my greatest assets, enabling me to bridge
gaps between technical experts and general audiences.

GCOM has also equipped me with a powerful communication toolkit: the ability to ask incisive
questions and design solutions that meet real human needs. Last summer, I applied these strengths
   • Administration / Management as a Business Analytics Intern at a global bank, where I prototyped a UX/UI design for an AI-powered
   • Advertising risk management platform. It was a vivid demonstration of how strategic communication and
   • Art & Design House analytical rigor can drive innovation in traditionally data-driven environments.
   • Banking / Finance
   • Business Consultant As AI reshapes industries, the critical thinking and creative confidence I gained at CUHK have
   • Creative Media prepared me to navigate these changes. My courses taught me that innovation thrives when we build
   • Electronics / Electrical Engineering bridges between disciplines, communities, and ideas. I'm excited to carry forward this collaborative
   • Journalism & Broadcasting
   • Real Estate mindset as I continue exploring the evolving relationship between technology and human
   • PR / Marketing Agency / Mass Comm communication.
