Conference Introduction

In commemoration of the 60th Anniversary of the School of Journalism and Communication, The Chinese University of Hong Kong, we are organising an international conference themed on Sustainability and Sustainable Media. The conference aims to bring together a group of prominent international scholars to address key issues and challenges related to sustainability from media and communication research perspectives. Anchored by sustainability, this conference explores the epistemological and ontological challenges that media transformations and digital technologies bring to global sustainable development. It will generate theoretical and practical knowledge about digital technologies’ infrastructural and environmental implications. We will take stock of how today’s media industries and communication technologies can be better designed and governed to align with the goals of sustainable development at large. All the discussions will facilitate the translation of these international insights to the Greater China and East Asian contexts.

This will be a two-day event that consists of seven sessions with 20 presentations. Articles presented at the conference will be selected to produce a book volume.
