Public Talk on The Media and Democratization
in Taiwan by Prof. King Pu-Tsung

Prof. King Pu-Tsung was invited to give a public talk on The Media and Democratization in Taiwan on 19 June 2012 at The Chinese University of Hong Kong.

Prof. King is a renowned journalism scholar in Taiwan who taught at various universities before. In 2008, Prof. King visited our school to teach “Political Communication” which was well received by students.

In the lecture, Prof. King reviewed the four stages of development of press freedom under different political contexts in Taiwan. He also illustrated the relationship between the media industry and democracy in Taiwan according to his own experience. Prof. King regarded that press freedom should be a right rather than a given power, which should be highly protected.

In the Q&A session, he shared his views with the audience on what and how the government could do to preserve press freedom.

 


The talk attracted a full house of over one hundred academics, students, alumni and media professionals.
