Public Talk Series of Media Professionals in Residence Programme (2024 Spring)

Three insightful public talks were hosted by our three media fellows this Spring. Award-winning young journalist Luo Ting presented the first public talk of this season. She shares her reporting experience over the decade, covering world breaking news such as the MH730 incident in 2014, the Tianjin explosion in 2015, and many more. She expresses concerns over the challenges she faces in her career and how she overcomes them.

Xiang Kai discusses the challenges on reporting devastating incidents, such as serious accidents, natural disaster, murder cases or large social campaign. He also shares with us tips on how to create an “entry point” to the reporting scenes and discusses the pros and cons of being a male or female reporter in handling investigative reportage.

The final talk was conducted by independent photojournalist Billy Kwok Ho Chung, on presenting an investigative approach and storytelling perspective in reporting news through the prism of photography, archival material and objects. Billy’s expertise on photography has earned him numerous reputations, including the Foam Talent artist in 2021, W. Eugene Smith Grant Finalist in 2010, and Magnum Foundation fellow in 2018 and 2019.
