Media Professionals in Residence Programme

The School of Journalism and Communication at The Chinese University of Hong Kong debuts this new programme offering the world’s top media professionals an opportunity to share their expertise, engage with the campus community, and collaborate with university scholars. Participants will spend eight weeks on campus, participating in lectures and events, and serving as a resource for students, faculty and staff.

Visiting fellows in Spring Semester 2023

JI Tianqin

Senior Investigative Journalist. She was a Harvard Nieman Fellow (2019-2020) and former Senior Writer at Caixin Media and Southern Metropolis Weekly.

LIU Min

Nonfiction writer and editor with experience in both GQ China and Lifeweek Magazine. Currently, she serves as the Deputy Editor-in-Chief and Feature Director at Esquire China. Her writing covers a range of topics including social inequality, sexual violence, the impact of AI, and China’s growing consumerism, etc.

WANG Qing

Multimedia journalist specialized in global affairs. She is committed to helping the world understand China, and China the world (especially Europe). She has ten years’ experience in covering important political and economic stories with a cross-border perspective and a human-centred approach. She currently serves as the Chief International Correspondent at Jiemian News. She also co-hosts a popular podcast “The Weirdo,” which was awarded as 2020 Annual New Show by Apple Podcast China and has nearly one million subscribers.

Public Talk Series of Media Professionals in Residence Programme (2023 Spring)

The Public Talk Series of Media Professionals in Residence Programme (2023 Spring) has come to a successful end. Three Visiting Fellows were invited to share their insightful experience in their industries with us.

JI Tianqin, the Harvard Nieman Fellow (2019-2020) and former senior writer at Caixin Media and Southern Metropolis Weekly, kicked off the Public Talk Series with a fruitful sharing about her experience of being a senior investigative journalist. Her talk “The Rise and Fall of a Fortune 500 Man: My Story as an Investigative Reporter” inspired the participants by sharing the challenges she faced along the journey of writing investigative reports.

The second talk hosted by Liu Min, Deputy Editor-in-Chief and Feature Director of Esquire China attracted over 120 participants. Themed on “Be a Curious Social Observer in Today’s China”, Liu Min delivered a fruitful sharing about her writing covering a wide range of topics including social inequality and China’s growing consumerism, etc. During the Q&A session, participants had fruitful discussions with the speaker.

Wang Qing, Chief International Correspondent of Jiemian News, also the speaker of the third talk of a series “The In-Betweener: Being a Foreign Correspondent in a Polarized World”, gave an in-depth sharing about her experience of being a multimedia journalist specialized in global affairs and how to cover important political and economic stories with a human-centered approach. Participants seized the opportunity to interact with the speaker during the Q&A session.




Meeting with Visiting Fellows

Interested students may meet with the visiting fellow(s) individually or in groups. The expected meeting time is up to 30 minutes each session.
