Media Professionals in Residence Programme

The School of Journalism and Communication at The Chinese University of Hong Kong debuts this new programme offering the world’s top media professionals an opportunity to share their expertise, engage with the campus community, and collaborate with university scholars. Participants will spend eight weeks on campus, participating in lectures and events, and serving as a resource for students, faculty and staff.

Zhiqi ZHANG

Former journalist at Jiemian News. Co-founder of podcast “Stochastic Volatility” which has been awarded as ‘New Media 2020’ by New Weekly. “Stochastic Volatility” is currently the most-subscribed Podcast on Podcast platform Xiao Yuzhou and has been featured on The Economist, Politico, WSJ China, Sanlian Lifeweek, etc.

Chaoxin CHU

Veteran journalist with seventeen years’ experience. Former senior journalist at The Beijing News and Southern Weekly. He began writing for his own self-media three years ago and his book《我,其實還想進步》was published in 2020 by People’s Daily Press.

Public Talk Series of Media Professionals in Residence Programme (2022 Fall)

The Public Talk Series of Media Professionals in Residence Programme (2022 Fall) has come to a successful end. Three Visiting Fellows were invited to share their insightful experience in their industries with us.

Tony LIN, Documentary Producer, kicked off the Public Talk Series of Media Professionals in Residence Programme (2022 Fall) by giving a talk “Reclaiming “otherness”: finding your narrative in the (Western) news world”. He shared about how to discover and document human stories and the challenges along the way and gave a lot of insights to the participants.

The second talk hosted by Zhiqi ZHANG, co-founder of podcast “Stochastic Volatility” Podcast attracted over 300 participants from online and offline. Themed on “Voice, Emotion and Female Podcast”, Zhiqi shared her experience in connecting with others through content creation on we media platform. During the Q&A session, participants had fruitful discussions with the speaker.

CHU Zhaoxin, former senior journalist at Southern Weekly, also the speaker of the third talk of a series, shared the skills of interacting with officials in Mainland China when working on various investigative reports.

Meeting with Visiting Fellows

Interested students may meet with the visiting fellow(s) individually or in groups. The expected meeting time is up to 30 minutes each session.
