Global Comm Talk Series 2025-26

The Global Comm Talk Series 2025-26 concluded with this three-part series, which has brought together diverse perspectives on how we understand and advance diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) across disciplines. Dr. Sonia Wong began by introducing intersectionality as a vital lens for analyzing overlapping identities and social structures, reminding us that lived experiences are shaped by multiple, intersecting factors. Dr. Junko Asano then highlighted the power of communication research in DEI, showing how language, media, and cultural practices can both perpetuate and challenge inequalities, particularly in contexts of migration, labour, and race. Finally, Dr. Marty Miller guided us into the technological domain, exploring how large language models (LLMs) and AI systems can be critically examined and reimagined to foster inclusivity through creative and collaborative interventions.

Together, these talks emphasize that DEI is not confined to one field but is a shared responsibility across cultural studies, communication, and technology. By weaving theory, practice, and innovation, the series underscores the importance of interdisciplinary collaboration in building more equitable futures—whether in academic spaces, community settings, or digital systems.
