Launching Ceremony of CUHK-Sussex International Programme in Global Communication and Academic Roundtable on Social Media and Youth
The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) held the Launching Ceremony of CUHK-Sussex International Programme in Global Communication on 28 March 2017 in Cho Yiu Hall, University Administrative Building, CUHK. It marked the official launch of the BSSc Global Communication Programme – the first of its kind in Hong Kong and the partnership between CUHK and University of Sussex (Sussex).
The ceremony was officiated by Prof. Joseph Sung, Vice-Chancellor and President of CUHK and Prof. Michael Davies, Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Research) of Sussex. Other officiating guests were Prof. Fok Tai-fai, Pro-Vice-Chancellor of CUHK, Prof. Wong Suk-ying, Associate Vice-President of CUHK, Prof. Chiu Chi-yue, Dean of Faculty of Social Science, CUHK, Prof. Anthony Fung, Director of School of Journalism and Communication, CUHK, Prof. Scott Lash, Research Director of Centre for Cultural Studies, Goldsmiths, University of London, Prof. Sharon Strover, Director of Technology and Information Policy Institute, University of Texas at Austin and other delegates from Sussex.
Prof. Joseph Sung said in his welcome remarks that CUHK and Sussex shared a long history of connections, dating back to CUHK’s formation 54 years ago when a commission chaired by Lord John Fulton, Sussex’s founding Vice-Chancellor, recommended to the Hong Kong Government on the establishment of CUHK.
Today the collaboration between two universities is multi-faceted; not only in teaching but also in a variety of research areas. Social Media and Youth is one of many the two universities had been working on. An academic roundtable on this topic was featured after the ceremony, hosted by Prof. Francis Lee, responsible professor of the newly launched Global Communication Programme.
Prof. Anthony Fung said that the School of Journalism and Communication, CUHK was committed to providing a truly international programme with Sussex to equip students with a global mindset, intercultural knowledge, practical skills and core values of the societies.
