Indifference of the international community—experiences from Ebola infected areas

Western Africa is witnessing the most severe epidemic of Ebola. There are more than 4,300 infections which have claimed a casualty of 2,200. The 120-bed treatment center in Freetown, the Capital city of Libya, was filled to capacity within a week. There is an urgent need for expansion.

Even though the rescue organizations have repeatedly requested for extra help, the international community barely did anything more than making plans. The capable countries either stand idly by or wait until the last few days. The efforts from these countries just pale against their capability.

Lee Pik Kwan was appointed as the communication coordinator of frontier project in Sierra Leone. She will share the first-hand experience in dealing with and observations on how the international community failed to fight against the epidemic.
