“Survive in Hollywood”

Monday.COME
Date NOV 4 2013

Inspiring movies encourage people to dream, and for his dream to come true, the protagonist can do whatever it takes.

But in reality, this seems to be a different story. As we chase our dreams, life comes up with one obstacle after another, and to overcome them, we need to muster tremendous courage. It is easier said than done. In trying to sustain the basic needs of our livelihood, many of our dreams vanished into thin air.

Derek LUI, a graduate from the School of Journalism and Communication, The Chinese University of Hong Kong does not agree to this way of living. A few years ago, his passion for acting drove him to Hollywood to be trained and to find his dream as a star, leaving behind everything he had in Hong Kong. In the four years he spent in Hollywood, things did not go well. The road to becoming a star grew less and less possible; and with the few job opportunities he had, he could hardly support his living. Despite all this hardship, he was trained in another way. He had learnt to cook, seen the world and found a wider sky beyond his dreamland.

Derek is coming next Monday to show us what it was like trying to survive in Hollywood.
