Postgraduate Study Tour to South Korea 2018
This is the fifth year for the School of Journalism and Communication to organize a study tour to South Korea. Led by Prof. Sora Kim and Prof. Chen, Hsuan-Ting, a total of 20 taught postgraduate students learnt about Korean culture and visited well-known enterprises during the trip from May 1 to May 6, 2018.
Students visited the most famous Korean TV stations including MBC, SBS and JTBC. They were invited to visit the studio for shooting TV dramas, meet with morning news anchors, try out virtual reality devices and so on. Besides, they visited the largest advertising and PR agency in South Korea – Cheil Worldwide, as well as the largest Korean web portal site office – Naver Corporations, to gain deeper insights about the industry and their possible future careers. In addition, they visited Sungkyunkwan University and Korea Foundation for International Culture Exchange, which broadened their horizon and made the trip even more remarkable.
Apart from the intensive visits, students experienced Korean culture, including wearing traditional Korean dresses, Hanbok, at Gyeongbokgung Palace, trying Korean sauna, enjoying representative Korean food like ginseng chicken soup and Korean barbecue. “During this trip, I get to perceive South Korea from a different angle. The experiences of visiting famous Korean companies and TV stations are unforgettable to me. I would definitely regret if I didn’t join this trip” said one of the participants who had been to South Korea eight times.
All of the students enjoyed this trip very much. During the trip, they not only learnt more about Korean culture and the operating model of certain media companies, but also strengthened their friendship and broadened their horizon. The school will continue to organize study tours in order to benefit more undergraduate and postgraduate students in the future.
