Postgraduate Study Tour to United Kingdom 2019

Postgraduate Activities
Date APR 28 2019

Led by Prof. Mike Wong, 14 taught postgraduate students participated in the two-week study tour to UK from 28 April to 11 May 2019. This year, the programme focused on how digitalisation transcends business across the media industry, from traditional news outlets to new media platforms, from PR, advertising to marketing communication.

Upon arrival, Prof. Wong arranged visits to internationally renowned companies including Microsoft, Airbnb, The Telegraph, Hall & Partner, Freuds, Precedent and BBC. Students were able to have conversations with professionals from respective digital section. To provide more systematic training, a one-day marketing communications workshop was jointly arranged by Thomson Reuters Foundation and the School in Reuters’ London Headquarter. And another two-hour creative workshop was tailor-made by V&A Museum’s resident artist for our students. During their stay in Oxford, Reuters Institute for the Study of Journalism and Oxford Internet Institute invited them for seminars and talks. Students found the whole experience inspiring and rewarding.

After visits, students had a little taste of the life of Londoners, travelling with the 150-year-old Tube, walking along the old town, dining next to the River Thames and going to local Jazz club. During the weekend, they went to East London for a street art walking tour and they even tried graffiti painting themselves in a licensed workshop. Not to mention the get-away trip to Cambridge, punting on the River Cam. After two weeks’ travel and study together, students left with invaluable insights, fond memories as long as life-long friendship.
