Study Tour to South Korea 2017

Postgraduate Activities
Date MAY 9 2017

It was the fourth year for the School of Journalism and Communication to organise a study tour to South Korea. This year, led by Prof. Sora Kim and Dr. Clara Kan, a mixed group of 17 students from three undergraduate streams and five postgraduate programmes was gladly received by Korea Entertainment Association and Sungkyunkwan University.

During the stay from 9-14 May 2017 in Seoul, a wide variety of media visits were arranged such as MBC World, YTN, SBS, Cheil Worldwide, Naver Corporation and Korea Foundation, from leading local broadcast networks to international news channels, from PR advertising agency to internet and online game corporation. In addition, Prof. Byeung-Hee Chang from Sungkyunkwan University and Prof. Hyung-Min Lee from Seoul Women’s University gave students lectures about Korean broadcasting industry and PR advertising industry respectively.

Apart from the intensive visits, students managed to squeeze some spare time to experience the “Korean Wave” by visiting well-preserved historical areas in Hanbok costume and exploring the hipster culture in Seoul. Authentic Korean food was another highlight of the tour. Part of study, part of experience – that’s the fully-packed six days tour in South Korea.

The study tour would not be a success without Alumni Association’s generous support to student global exposure activities. The School will continue to explore more opportunities aiming to benefit more students in the future.
