Extending the WUN (Worldwide Universities Network) Understanding Global Digital Cultures Conference, the C-Centre of the School of Journalism and Communication organized a Workshop on Global Digital Cultures on 27 April 2015.

The aim of the workshop is to collaboratively think about how to use the WUN partnership as means of facilitating a sustainable research network on global digital cultures. Prof. Brian Loader of York University and Prof. Jack Qiu of the School served as the co-conveners of this event. Prof. Loader is well known for leading the high-impact journal iCS (Information, Communication & Society).

Twenty-eight participants from different universities and research centres all over the world shared their ideas and discussed on the appropriate methodologies for conducting research related to global digital cultures. They explored ways of collecting and archiving data as well as making sense of worldwide digital cultures comparatively. During the workshop, they also discussed possibilities for future research collaboration.

Apart from the vibrant discussion, the workshop also invited Prof. Ang Peng Hwa, Professor of the Wee Kim Wee School of Communication and Information, Nanyang Technological University, to give a keynote speech. As a leader in research on Internet policy and governance, Prof. Ang has become the first Asian President-Elect-Select of the International Communication Association (ICA). He delivered a talk on “Researching Our Digital Cultures: Wind, Fire and Earth”, which was highly stimulating and well received among participants.
