Coronavirus: Hong Kong leader’s daily press briefings may undermine credibility if she fails to deliver results, analysts say

//Grace Leung Lai-kuen, a lecturer at Chinese University’s journalism school, pointed out that leaders in other countries only made occasional public appearances devoted to their Covid-19 fight.

Leung said the public might end up suffering from fatigue and “have problems digesting tonnes of information” because Lam “shows up every day” in the press briefings.

“Hongkongers may only want to know some practical information such as the daily infection numbers, the dos and don’ts if one gets infected and from whom they can seek help,” she said.

Leung suggested Lam might also want to give a better impression to Beijing that she had been diligent in the fight against the pandemic.

“I don’t rule out that she might want to attract Beijing’s support for a second term through boosting her public exposure. But Beijing will judge her overall performance over the past five years and not just focus on one particular issue.” //
