School of Journalism and Communication of The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) welcomes NON-local applicants to apply for our full-time PhD program through the Hong Kong PhD Fellowship Scheme. The Fellowship provides a monthly stipend of HK$20,000 (approximately US$2,600) and a conference and research related travel allowance of HK$10,000 (approximately US$1,300) per year for the awardees for a period of three years. PHD PROGRAM IN COMMUNICATION, CUHK 

Having the longest history of communication education and research, School of Journalism and Communication has been the leader in communication research in China, Hong Kong and Taiwan. In 1993, the Doctor of Philosophy Program was established by the School which then became the pioneer in Media Education. HONG KONG PHD FELLOWSHIP SCHEME

Our School is delighted to invite non-local postgraduate students to apply for our PhD program and undertake three years of PhD study in Hong Kong via the Hong Kong PhD Fellowship Scheme.

Established in 2009 by the Hong Kong Research Grants Council (RGC), the Scheme aims to attract outstanding students in the world to pursue their PhD degree program in Hong Kong. The Fellowship generously provides financial supports. The amount includes:

1. A monthly stipend of HK$20,000 (approximately US$2,600) and

2. A conference and research related travel allowance of HK$10,000 (approximately US$1,300) per year for the awardees for a period of three years.

ELIGIBILITY 

1. Those who are seeking admission as new full time PhD students in UGC-funded  institutions of Hong Kong, irrespective of their country of origin and ethnic background, should be eligible to apply.

2. Applicants should demonstrate outstanding qualities of academic performance, research ability/ potential, communication and interpersonal skills, and leadership abilities.

3. Applicants are required to fully comply with CUHK admission requirements and our PhD program admission requirements.

SELECTION CRITERIA

While the academic excellence is of prime consideration, the Selection Panels will take into account, but is not limited to, the four yardsticks below for the selection of candidates:

.Academic excellence
.Research ability and potential
.Communication, and interpersonal skills
.Leadership abilities

APPLICATION

.Applicants should submit initial application to the RGC through their on-line application system, and will be assigned a Reference Number. Applicants should then submit the full application through email to Miss Heidi Choi and quote the RGC Reference Number.

.The application deadline of the Scheme is 1 December 2010 at Hong Kong Time 12:00:00 (GMT +8 hours)

.Start the application as early as possible in view of the need of selection procedures and various supporting documents required.
