Monday.COME “The Prospects of Free Newspapers”

News Archive 12 September, 2011

It has been almost a decade since the first free newspaper of Hong Kong was founded in 2002. Free newspapers, and to a broader extent the newspaper industry as a whole, have experienced a sea change during this period. Recently, the launch of new free newspapers has brought forth more intense competition in this sector, which might even give rise to the situation where only the fittest will survive. On September 19, we are pleased to have invited the Chief Executive Officer of the Sing Tao News Corporation Limited, Mr. Lo Wing-hung, to be the first guest speaker of Monday.COME in the new academic year. Having completed his undergraduate studies at the School of Journalism and Communication of the Chinese University of Hong Kong, and later on his postgraduate studies at the Department of Government and Public Administration, Mr. Lo happens to be an alumnus of both disciplines. Under his leadership, the Sing Tao News Corp set up the free newspaper Headline Daily and re-launch The Standard as a free newspaper.
