Monday.COME “We in Wukan”

On March 25, Hong Kong’s coterie of 1200 people elected the next Chief Executive at the splendid Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre. At the same time, 16 Pinpoint students from the School of Journalism and Communication were in the Wukan Village in rural Guangdong, where there has just been a one-person-one-vote election. More than 6,800 villagers voted in this village committee election, which was over 80 per cent of the whole village’s population. Students talked over the night on the development of democracy with the young villagers who had participated in the protest, amazed at the persistence of these youths. The Wukan youngster Zhang Jianxing said, “Youths are born passionate, for our land and for our future.” In face of the uncertain future, what inspirations have students got?
