News Archive 1 October, 2012

Prof. Stuart Cunningham, Distinguished Professor of Media and Communications at the Queensland University of Technology (QUT), was invited by the C-Centre to give a talk titled The new games paradigm: what is it, how did it happen, how long will it last? on 17 October 2012 at the Chinese University of Hong Kong.

Prof. Cunningham is the Director of the Australian Research Council Centre of Excellence for Creative Industries and Innovation. He is one of Australia’s most prominent media and cultural policy scholars. In the talk, Prof. Cunningham discussed two broad academic traditions of analysis of the games industry and a third emerging approach. He explained the new business models and the opportunity for smaller firms. However, he concluded that future development cycles may see higher barriers to entry and the end of “Prague spring” for games makers.
