VR Library Opening Ceremony

VR Library Opening Ceremony

Announcement 24 April, 2024

The School of Journalism and Communication of the Chinese University of Hong Kong held an opening ceremony on 24 April, 2024, marking the launch of its VR Library.

The VR Library aims to discover new ways of storytelling through technology, and to allow students to explore a curated selection of award-winning or high-quality immersive films and interactive artworks. Unlike other VR arcades or labs that focus on the gaming experience, the VR Library emphasizes the acquisition of VR works with strong storytelling components. This approach better facilitates the viewers to gain immersive storytelling knowledge and techniques from the best examples.

The VR Library has collected a wide array of creative works from different places such as the U.S., Germany, Taiwan, and Hong Kong. Notable pieces include a Taiwanese VR film, Home directed by HSU Chih-Yen, which won the Grand Prix of the 2021 Beyond the Frame Festival and was selected by the Venice Film Festival. Other notable pieces include Chroma 11 by TSANG Tsui Shan and Grimm’s Moon by Mick YIP, both of which are from Hong Kong.
