The Hong Kong PhD Fellowship Scheme (HKPFS) was established by the Research Grants Council (RGC) of Hong Kong and aims to attract the best and brightest students from across the globe to pursue their PhD studies at Hong Kong universities. All PhD applicants are strongly encouraged to apply for the HKPFS at the time they apply for our PhD in Communication Programme.

Financial support

Through the HKPFS, CUHK offers a wide range of research opportunities with a competitive package, including:

  • Up to HK$1.34M of annual stipends*
  • Up to HK$86,000 of conference and research-related travel allowance*
  • Up to HK$190,500 of tuition fee waiver*
  • Up to HK$100,000 of lodging award*#
  • 1st Year accommodation fee waiver and guaranteed on-campus accommodation*^

* Applicable to students within their normative study period.
# An award of HK$40,000 for lodging in the first year of study and HK$20,000 in subsequent years during students’ normative study period.
^ For HKPFS awardees who submit hall applications and complete registration procedures in a timely manner.

 

Requirements

In addition to meeting CUHK’s admissions and English language requirements, HKPFS applicants should have demonstrated outstanding credentials in the following areas:

  • Academic excellence;
  • Research ability and potential;
  • Communication and interpersonal skills; and
  • Leadership abilities.

 

Application

Applicants should submit an initial application through RGC’s Online Application Portal at https://cerg1.ugc.edu.hk/hkpfs/InitApplication.jsp and then submit the full application through CUHK’s Online Admission System at https://www.gradsch.cuhk.edu.hk/OnlineApp/login_email.aspx (please quote the RGC Reference Number).

Application deadline: 12:00 noon, 1 December 2024 (Hong Kong Time)
