Monday.COME “Our Footsteps in the Anti-National Education Movement”

News Archive 12 September, 2012

In the summer of 2012, a movement that had never before appeared in Hong Kong came into existence: the Anti-National Education Movement. Withstanding numerous pressure and problems, the secondary-student group “Scholarism”, established for barely more than a year, and the “Parents’ Concern Group on National Education”formed in July managed to turn the movement from a humble beginning into a society-wide campaign. They succeeded in forcing the government to yield and allow schools to decide on their own whether to launch the National Education as a separate subject or not. The chairperson of the government-appointed consultation committee on national education later announced that the original Moral and National Education Curriculum Guide has already lost its efficacy. How are all these made possible? Members from the two major groups in this Anti-National Education Movement, the “Parents’ Concern Group on National Education” and “Scholarism”, will be at Monday.COME to share with us their experience and thoughts on the movement.
