//Dating among Gen Zers – young adults in their early 20s – is less complicated compared with previous generations, according to a survey from dating app Tinder.

Chan Lik-sam, a researcher of global dating app cultures and the author of 2021’s The Politics of Dating Apps: Gender, Sexuality, and Emergent Publics in Urban China, says that more than 40 per cent of Hong Kong’s population has been on dating apps.

“The trend is a U-shaped curve: it drops from age 34 to 44 because people are married, and it rises again after age 44 as divorces happen.

“The insurgence of online dating makes it very convenient for singles, because you’re constantly on the dating market. In the past, you’re on the market only when you go out. Now, you’re always ‘on’.” //
